Horizon 22 Viewing Platform

Horizon 22; Viewing Platform

Sitting 254 metres above ground, the Horizon 22 Viewing Platform offers a floor-to-ceiling glass window experience spanning 300 degrees around the London skyline.  Taking in views along the River Thames, you’ll easily spot many of the top London sights including the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, The Shard, Tower of London & Canary Wharf.  Sitting behind the Sky Garden & The Shard, Horizon 22 seemingly dwarfs these well known attractions and offers up a unique viewpoint across the city.

Whilst Horizon 22 tickets are free of charge, demand is likely to remain fierce so you’ll need some forward planning with this attraction. We’re hearing that some additional tickets are being released, each day at 10am, via their website so worth checking for availability and, seemingly 2 months in advance tickets are released, a week at a time.  Some walk-in tickets are made available too, although this will be subject to capacity limitations, so you’ll be best booking ahead to avoid disappointment. We were fortunate enough to track down tickets in the first tranche of tickets released so we can give you the heads up on what to expect alongside with some tips and tricks to help you get the most from your visit.

Online tickets do come with timed ticket entry, to avoid any build up of queues, so best to get there in good time for your entry session. Be prepared for airport-style security upon your arrival and note that large bags will not be permitted, (bags larger that L 58cm x W 45cm x D25cm will not be permitted).  Worth noting that there are no lockers available at this setting & worth taking note of the list of prohibited items to avoid being turned away.

Horizon 22; Viewing Platform

The Horizon 22 viewing platform, now known at the tallest viewing platform in London, is open 7 days a weeks all year around, (with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Eve). Spanning views from BT Tower & Wembley through to Canary Wharf along the River Thames, you can spot most of the main London tourist attractions including St Paul’s Cathedral, Millennium Bridge & the London Eye.  You do need to know your sights as there is no signage available to assist, (staff are helpful), but it’s a great way to sit above the fray and look down upon the city.

Once you’ve been whisked up to the viewing platform, via one of the high speed lifts that are travelling at up to 8 metres per second, the doors open & present you with magnificent views over the city.  You’re free to wonder at your leisure as you begin to get your bearings and take in the sight below.  With more luck than judgement, we arrived in time to see Tower Bridge opening that was an added bonus and staff around us were very helpful in pointing out sights or helping visitors take photos. There is no time limit on your visit, but with limited seating options around you, there is a natural flow to visitors on the deck and plenty of vantage points to take in the views before you.

Horizon 22; Tips & Tricks

1. Free tickets are released 2 months in advance, a week at a time.  Demand is fierce so you’ll need to act quickly to bag yourself free tickets & remember that children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

2. Look out for ticket releases taking place each morning at 10am via their website – we’ve noted ticket releases happening on a Monday at 10am. There may also be a limited number of walk-in tickets available but these are subject to availability.  Simply scan the QR code located by the main entrance to check availability and make an on-spec booking.

3. There are limits on the size of belongings you can take with you on the day & worth noting that there are no on-site lockers available so plan ahead.

4. On the viewing deck, there is a small refreshment kiosk serving tea, coffees, soft drinks and snacks with a limited number of tables and chairs dotted around the kiosk.  You can bring water bottles and small snacks should you prefer.

5. Whilst there is no time limit set around your visitor experience, you may find your visit limited to how long you can stand on your feet. Apart from the seating around the refreshment kiosk, there is currently no other seating available on the viewing deck.

6. Time your visit with the opening times of Tower Bridge to give extra sparkle to your visit.

7. There are toilet facilities available both within the lobby and on the 58th floor
